They have the rounded feel of a well-played instrument and not the blockiness of the new machine-dressed frets. It plays and sounds marvelous with excellent setup exactly as it should. No checking, but has a nice lightly faded quality to the red, the bindings are vintage tinted. Really only standard play wear it has just aged gracefully and the gloss feels and looks older a little older in a good way. NO major dings dents, blems, buckle rash, or worming. It is perfect thickness and contour, notably leaner than a full '59 R9 LP neck, but with a feel much more rounded than newer necks 89" or so at 1st fret, just over 1" at 12th.

Also, note the Custom Historic serial number (A99xxx). They do not have the same feel and geometry. The neck and other features are not the same. NOTE: This is NOT the same as the "standard" '59 DOT reissue from same time period that go for around $2k. I can say that it has a unique vintage vibe that I have not encountered in newer reissues, and this represents a very unique instrument. He felt, with the many custom upgrades, this was close in feel and character of a real 1959.
I purchased this from a collector who handpicked this instrument out of a batch of several. It is known that late 90's early 00s were good quality years for Art & Historic models. This was an early year for the Historic reissue of the ES-335 there are not great numbers of this generation out there. This is a special find among the many newer year historic reissues out there !
